Links vs. Content

by James

Webmasters have noticed that some sites rank high without having much real content on the page. Just look at how high Microsoft ranks and how much content they have on their pages. They rank high because they have so many backlinks pointing to them with that anchor text. This means that the major search engines could be starting to put more weight on links than on content.

Instead of trying to build more backlinks yourself, it might be a good idea to put more focus on writing valuable content. Make it so other webmasters want to links to your site and give you free links. This will get you diverse backlinks from sites which you would never have gotten links from, and you could get some exclusive links from sites which don’t allow commenting. Someone writing an article could put you as a reference or a senior editor on Wikipedia could reference your site for an article. Just writing one article could lead to all this, and you wouldn’t have to do much to gain all these links. It’s a perfect way to get a balance between content and backlinks.

Just remember than you won’t rank well without good content, no matter how many links you have. Just like Techie said, content is and will always be king. And as you read now content can get you some free backlinks too.

One of my website got PR 3 after the first UP, with very small number of back-links (I've just finished it ). Only my content has granted PR to me
Content is the number one thing, you should think about
Links appear and gone, but content is forever =)

The only thing I think about with content is that you should mention your keywords often. Besides that I really don't see it. I mean it would work for sites like techgeeks but for sites like mine that were made purely for profits then no one would link to me
