You can prevent nearly any Xbox 360 console fro getting the red ring of death or many other errors. This includes older Xbox 360 consoles that are much more at risk to getting errors like the red ring of death (abbreviated RRoD). Firstly, lets look at what causes the red ring of death, E74, and other errors in the Xbox 360. When the Xbox 360 overheats (specifically the motherboard overheats) it becomes more flexible. Molecules move faster when they are heated up and that’s why it becomes a bit more flexible.
The Xbox 360 uses X Clamps to keep the heatsinks on the motherboard. The heatsinks are the things that move heat away from the CPU and GPU (GPU processes graphics). The X Clamps keep the heatsinks on the motherboard by going on the opposite side of the motherboard (Opposite of the side with the heatsinks) and pulling 4 points (The 4 corners of the heatsink) towards the center of the heatsink. This may be a bit hard to understand and visualize, but I’ll compare it to a computer. In a computer, heatsinks are held down by screws; 4 screws to hold down the 4 corners to the motherboard. (They’re not really screws but there is no better comparison). So on a computer’s motherboard, there is no pressure on the motherboard from the heatsink being held down. On the Xbox 360, the heatsinks are being pulled down onto the CPU and GPU and the motherboard is being used as leverage.
To sum it all up, the Xbox 360 motherboard is under a lot of pressure from the X clamps. We compared it to a computer’s motherboard which has no pressure. The red ring of death and E74 and similar errors happen when the motherboard has been warm and allowed to bend from the pressure. The fixes require you to remove the X clamps and use screws. Then you heat up the motherboard and allow it to bend back.
As I said above, the red ring of death and E74 and similar errors happen when the motherboard has been warm and allowed to bend from the pressure. Then you will think that all you need to do is keep your Xbox 360 cool to prevent the red ring of death. That’s true, but just keeping the xbox 360 away from walls isn’t enough. There is an almost hidden enemy you won’t think of. Dust. Dust will enter your console and cover the motherboard. It acts like an insulator and keeps heat trapped. When anyone opens their Xbox 360 to repair it they realize how much dust is really in there. The solution is simple; just use a can of compressed air to dust your Xbox 360 ever month (or weekly, depending on how much you play and how safe you want to be.)
This will prevent the red ring of death unless your console has an error in manufacturing. Many consoles that would have had the red ring of death or E74 will not because of them being dusted.

@norradjer99 That sounds like a neat trick but can you explain in detail what the towel trick is?
Quite an impressive manner of explaining the technicalities. My only problem is that I was unable to sink my teeth on the technicalities. But to sum it up the reason for those errors is overheating and dust. Its quite assumptive that anything used over its potential will give away its heart and die out on you. So therefore, everything has its limits and its safe for us not to cross those limits. I would also like to ask that wet wipes cannot be used to clean the dust away? Or can they?
Yeah the towel trick is one of the worst things you can do. You're just overheating your xbox more and more and that just increases the risk for more damage.
Could i like maybe put a small fan on it or something to help keep it cool i have a inter cooler but it really doesnt help keep it cool any and can i keep the mother board clean without takin it apart
Yes you can keep the motherboard clean, just buy a can of compressed air and blow some of the dust out of there. And just make sure to keep the xbox in a well-ventilated place; you don’t want anything too close to it so all that heat is trapped.
