Top 5 Reasons Why The iPhone is Still Hot

by Techie

Why is the iPhone still a hot phone to have? This is an interesting topic to discuss because everyone seems to have a strong opinion on both sides of the debate. There are people who still call the iPhone a revolutionary state-of-the-art phone and others who say it’s not anything to get excited about. I think one of the best ways to see both sides is through a neutral list of reasons why the product is still hot on the market. These are the top 10 reasons we came up with about why the iPhone is still so popular.

  • The iPhone works as advertised - This is probably the biggest reason for the popularity of the iPhone. The device works as you would expect it to. The iPhone is limited to one network with a required data plan, and all the software is approved by Apple before it hits the App store. All this close regulation results in 100% glitch-free software for everyone. This is something that other phones and mobile operating systems such as Android can’t have, because every phone the OS is loaded into can have different specifications. The iPhone works as advertised all the time.
  • It synchronizes with iTunes - For people who buy music through iTunes and use it as their music library management software, the iPhone is the only phone with which they can easily sync their music directly from iTunes to the phone. Other phones may be easier to load music onto when you have it ready and mp3 format, but that can get difficult if most of your music is bought through iTunes.
  • The iPhone is familiar - A huge part of the iPhone’s success is because of people’s familiarity with the device. Once someone is comfortable using a device, it can be hard to switch and try something new. There was an article on Yahoo News a while ago in which a commenter said something along the lines of “My child is familiar with playing the games on my iPhone when we’re waiting somewhere, and I don’t know what games Android could offer to match that.” I also have relatives who have held on to their phones for years and years and who still use these outdated phones because they’re familiar with the user interface. This is a large factor in people holding on to their iPhones, because they don’t feel comfortable switching to something new.
  • It’s made by Apple – The simple fact that Apple made the iPhone contributes to it’s success. There are people (even some here ate TechGeeks) who buy everything Apple releases without questioning it. A perfect example is the iPad; there are so many people who wouldn’t have bought a tabled this year if it wasn’t for the iPad, and they didn’t even shop around or look at specifications or anything before buying the iPad. This shows us that there are people who simply buy products because of the company which makes these products. This isn’t a bad thing and I’m not saying anything bad about Apple, it’s just that we assume everything a company makes is high quality and we must buy it (another example would be Windows 7, but that’s another story). The fact that the iPhone is made by Apple contributes to it’s success because it allows people to ‘look cool’. I’ve read that online and I’ve heard it in conversations, so I guess it’s something we can’t really miss in this post. Pulling out an iPhone simply makes a lot of people feel cool (we haven’t heard anything like this about Backberry or Android), so it’s no wonder people buy it.
  • The App Store is the largest of them all – This is frequently brought up when comparing the iPhone to other devices. Apple’s App Store contains more applications than any other application center for a device, and that means there’s “An app for pretty much everything.” This bulleted reason is very debated, because people would argue about the amount of apps which are widely used.

Of course there are more reasons to the iPhone’s success, but we felt like these were some of the biggest. If you feel we left something out, please comment below to let us know. Thanks for reading!
