Why WordPress?

by Techie

Why should anyone choose WordPress over every other CMS available to them? You may be surprised that I honestly don’t know the answer, and I’m not writing this post to say that WordPress is better than other systems to get your content out. I like Blogger and Tumblr and you could even create static HTML pages for your content if you wanted to. They all have their advantages, but I’m going to use this post to give the [non-exclusive] benefits of using WordPress.

  • WordPress is easy to use. It’s made to be user-friendly so administering it isn’t a pain. The administrative control panel has a great layout to help you do what you want with your blog.
  • There are plugins for everything. Do you want to remove those nofollow tags or start using a CDN or insert ads in your posts? You can do all that and more with plugins, so you don’t need to mess around with any code. Plugins are also extremely easy to install with a click of a button; you don’t need to download them to your computer and then upload to the server because WordPress allows you to browse, download, and install everything to the server from the administrative control panel.
  • It’s SEO-friendly out-of-the-box. Your on-page optimization will be great and you’ll be sure that you’re ranking as high as you could be, without using any SEO-related plugins or paying for expensive SEO consultations.
  • It’s also fast out-of-the-box. Your site will be fast (even though you can make it faster), reducing your bounce rates and increasing your conversions.
  • It can be self-hosted. No need to worry about getting banned and losing all your hard work. Your content is on your server, which also means that you can quickly manipulate it any way you want. (For example, wouldn’t it be fun to find out how many times I’ve mentioned WordPress in all my posts?)
  • Great structure. WordPress creates the pages your visitors need but doesn’t bloat your site with unnecessary public pages; this is a great structure for users and for search engines. Every page has something unique and valuable.

I want to move my blog to Wordpress, but I’m so comfortable with Blogger at the minute that I’m tentative. I think Wordpress would work better for my blog too, so maybe it’s time to take the leap… However, the thought of moving all my posts and the tedium of all the technical stuffs, gives me the shivers.

There’s an easy import tool to import posts and comments into WordPress. I’m sure you’ll love it because everything in the administration pages is so much easier to do :)

I agree with all your points and would like to add one of my own: WordPress has the best looking themes and templates of any CMS platform. I don’t know if it’s something unique about the platform or if it has the biggest number of developers working on it, but WordPress templates are consistently the best looking ones out there.
