Reducing Bounce Rate With Related Content

Bounce rate is a measure of the percent of visitors who enter a website and leave without clicking through to another page on the website. Bounce rates are significant because they indicate the effectiveness of pages on visitor engagement. Lower bounce rates are desired because they show that a website is capturing the reader’s interest and causing them to browse around. Infact, we found that the more a visitor browses, the more difficult it becomes for them to leave.

I believe that one of the most direct and effective ways to reduce a website’s bounce rate is by showcasing related content. A person visits a website for information; the page they reach may either answer their question or not. In either case, showcasing related content on your website shows the reader that your website has more content which they can view to extend what you have already given them on the topic.

“You just read an article about the effects of water density on heat capacity; we would recommend our article on barometric pressure’s effects on water density for further reading.” This is how you’re presenting yourself to your visitors when you show them related content. Even if you have a small website with few highly related articles, people may be interested to see your related content simply because it relates to the same topic.

Using a plugin to show related content on each page is a great way to show visitors what else your website can offer on the subject. As you can see, showing related content can greatly decrease your website’s bounce rates.
